Study Abroad Updates: Countries Unveiling Fresh Visa Perspectives

The latest trends in international education are amazing! Currently, around 1.3 million Indian students are studying in universities worldwide, and this number is growing rapidly every year. However, as the world recovers from the pandemic, many countries are experiencing a surge in international students, which is causing some challenges, such as finding accommodation. To address this issue, countries are tightening their rules for study visas and graduate/post-study work visas. Some nations have introduced new immigration policies, especially for students, which is exciting news. Keep reading to find out which countries are leading the way in this exciting new era of global education!

Australia

Australia is a popular study destination for Indian students. The number of Indian students studying in Australia has been increasing steadily since 2019. However, recently the Australian government has announced a few changes in the rules for international students. The government has increased the required score in English proficiency tests, introduced a new Genuine Student test, and increased the amount of savings required for a student visa.

United Kingdom (UK)

The UK government is taking steps to decrease immigration stats, including a ban on overseas students bringing their families unless they are on postgraduate research degrees. International students can no longer switch from student visas to work routes until their studies are completed and the two-year post-study work visa is under review. Additionally, the visa fee (including study visas) has been increased by nearly £127.

Canada

Starting from December 1, 2023, Canadian learning institutions will verify applicants’ letters of acceptance. The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program is being reformed to meet labor market needs, regional and Francophone immigration goals. The financial requirement for students will increase to 20,635 CAD from January 1, 2024.

France

France has made changes to make the study abroad experience easier for Indian students pursuing fields like fashion, culinary arts, management, business, etc. Students earning a Master’s degree can now get a five-year post-study work visa instead of the previous two-year visa. Additionally, those who have studied in France for a semester or more can avail a five-year short-stay Schengen visa to explore job opportunities.

Ireland

Ireland is becoming a popular study-abroad destination for Indian students. The Irish government allows international students who complete a bachelor’s or master’s degree to stay in the country for two years, and Ph.D. holders for three years. This is an increase from the previous one-year limit for undergraduates.

Italy

Italy has extended the stay duration of Indian students by 12 months after the completion of their degrees. Around 5,897 Indian students were present in Italy in 2022 on study visas. Italy also offers various provisions related to training and internships for Indian students to gain experience in Italian skills.

New Zealand

New Zealand now accepts IELTS One Skill Retake option for assessing English language proficiency. This decision by Immigration New Zealand is considered reliable for international migration.

United States of America

The US has announced new rules for student visa applicants to prevent fraud and abuse of the appointment system in 2023. All students applying for F, M, and J student visas have been advised to use their passport information when creating a profile and scheduling their visa appointment. Incorrect passport numbers will not be accepted, and the visa fee will be lost.
