Exciting Updates on Canada’s Express Entry Draws!
The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has made waves this month with a flurry of Express Entry draws, marking the fourth one in just a few weeks! A total of 3,200 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were issued in the latest category-based draw, focusing on French language proficiency. Candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 420 to qualify.
A Busy Start to July
This month’s activity follows a trio of draws from July 2-5:
- July 2: 920 ITAs issued in a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw with a minimum CRS score of 739.
- July 4: 1,800 ITAs for candidates in trade occupations.
- July 5: 3,750 ITAs for candidates in healthcare occupations.
July has been bustling with Express Entry draws, echoing the busy periods of April and February earlier this year.
Spotlight on French-Proficiency
French language proficiency draws are significant, accounting for 30% of ITAs in category-based draws this year. So far, IRCC has issued 15,600 ITAs in this category, showcasing the importance of bilingualism in Canada’s immigration strategy.
Understanding Express Entry
Express Entry, launched in 2015, is IRCC’s streamlined system for managing applications for three key economic immigration programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
Candidates are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which evaluates factors like age, language skills, education, work experience, and occupation. Higher scores increase the likelihood of receiving an ITA.
Category-Based Selection Explained
Introduced in 2023, category-based selection targets candidates to address specific workforce needs. The six categories include:
- Healthcare occupations
- STEM professions
- Trades occupations (e.g., carpenters, plumbers)
- Transport occupations
- Agriculture and agri-food occupations
- French-language proficiency
Except for French proficiency, candidates need at least six months of relevant work experience under an eligible National Occupation Classification (NOC) code. French-speaking candidates must achieve a minimum score of seven across all language skills on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC).
