As of 2024, there has not been a general Express Entry draw with a minimum/cut-off CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score below 524. However, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted eight category-based Express Entry draws in 2024. These category-based draws have featured minimum CRS scores at least 33 points lower than the general draws this year.
To qualify for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) through a category-based Express Entry draw, candidates must meet specific criteria based on the category they fall under. For example, in the French language proficiency category, applicants are required to attain a minimum score of 7 in all four language abilities on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC).
Occupational categories are focused on candidates with eligible work experience in healthcare, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), trades, transportation, agriculture, and agri-food. Candidates are expected to have at least six months of eligible full-time, continuous work experience in the last three years in one of these industries.
For candidates aiming to improve their CRS score for general draws, there are several strategies that can be employed. These include enhancing scores through language proficiency in a second official language, obtaining an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for credentials obtained outside Canada, evaluating work experience and National Occupational Classification (NOC) level to potentially increase the CRS score, and considering the principal applicant on the Express Entry profile.
