Elevated Earnings: UK Skilled Worker Visa Update

UK skilled worker visa
Exciting news! Starting from 4th April 2024, the UK Skilled Worker Visa Salary Threshold is going to see a significant increase. I’ve got all the details in an in-depth report that you won’t want to miss. So, sit back, relax, and let’s dive into the specifics together!

The UK government will increase the Skilled Worker visa salary thresholds from April 4th, 2024. Employers must assign Certificates of Sponsorship before April 2nd, 2024 to fall under the current threshold. The minimum salary requirement for the Skilled Worker visa will increase to £38,700 annually, except for Health and Care workers. This will affect a range of job categories and may impact sectors that rely on skilled overseas workers.

UK has made changes to its salary thresholds for Tier 2 visas. Minimum salary requirement for certain professions may be higher than £38,700. The new rules will take effect from April 2, 2024. Health and care visa roles will have a lower salary threshold of £29,000 per year. For certain occupations within the health and care sector, a lower salary threshold of either £23,200 or their occupation-specific threshold, whichever is higher, will be applicable.

The UK policy supports new entrants to the job market and applicants with relevant Ph.D. under lower salary thresholds. Current visa holders may face the £29,000 threshold when extending their stay or changing employers. The new salary requirements may lead to greater scrutiny of UK employers holding a sponsor licence, who may face severe consequences for non-compliance. It is essential for sponsor license holders to understand and implement the changes to avoid repercussions.

From April 4th, 2024, the minimum salary threshold for a Skilled Worker visa application will rise to the higher of £38,700 or the going rate for the role as outlined in the updated SOC (Standard Occupational Classification) 2020. This replaces the previous SOC 2010, affecting the occupation code number for some roles.

Starting from 2023, the minimum salary threshold for some roles will significantly exceed £38,700. If you already hold a Skilled Worker visa, the minimum salary for you will be the higher of £29,000 or the going rate for your role. These transitional provisions will be available until April 4th, 2030. If you need help with employing Skilled Workers and applying for a Sponsor Licence, workpermit.com can assist you.
