The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (B.C. PNP) has taken a decisive step by prioritizing 25 new construction occupations, effective November 16, 2023. These occupations include electricians, plumbers, carpenters, welders, and concrete finishers, among others, who are essential to the construction sector.
The program aims to address the pressing need for residential housing and infrastructure in B.C. over the next five years and is committed to attracting workers with valid B.C. trades qualifications. The province has already sent out the first 12 permanent residency invitations to workers in these occupations on November 16 under all categories of provincial Skills Immigration and their Express Entry variants.
This move marks a significant shift from its previous targeted rounds of invitations for early childhood educators, tech, and healthcare occupations, demonstrating the program’s assertive approach to meet the growing demand for skilled workers in the construction sector.
