Ontario and British Columbia’s Latest Immigration Program Updates: What’s New for Entrepreneurs and Skilled Workers?
From November 1 to November 8, Canada’s provinces of Ontario and British Columbia announced significant updates that are particularly relevant for individuals interested in immigrating through the entrepreneur and skilled worker streams. These updates may impact the application processes, eligibility criteria, and available opportunities within these immigration pathways. Below is a detailed breakdown of the key changes and implications for potential applicants looking to establish themselves in Canada.
Ontario Immigration Update
Ontario’s Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) announced an important change on November 4: it has officially closed its Entrepreneur Immigration Stream, which had already paused applications since December 2023. Although this stream has ended, it does not mean that the process is completely over for those who were already in progress.
- Ongoing Applications: Existing applications will continue under updated guidelines, which means eligible candidates with approved business plans may still secure a provincial nomination for Permanent Residence (PR).
- Next Steps for Applicants: The OINP will reach out to all current candidates to guide them through the updated processes and requirements.
