The EI Regional Stream is specifically designed for international entrepreneurs seeking to establish a business in a small community to contribute to the development of B.C.’s regional areas. Participating communities have identified the types of businesses they are prioritizing, and prospective candidates must visit the community they plan to work with and be assigned a community contact to facilitate the initial stages of the process. Entrepreneurs need to receive a community referral to register and apply under the EI Regional Stream.
In order to qualify for this program, entrepreneurs must establish a new business that aligns with the priorities of the referring community. They should also demonstrate relevant business and/or management experience, possess a personal net worth exceeding $300,000 CAD, invest at least $100,000 CAD in the business, create at least one new full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, demonstrate a minimum language proficiency of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 4, possess or be eligible for legal immigration status in Canada, and have been lawfully admitted into the country where they currently reside.
