Big news! The European Commission has just announced upcoming changes to the Schengen visa fees. Starting from 11th June this year, there will be adjustments to the fees, and this includes an increase in the basic fee. The cost for adults will rise from €80 to €90, and for children, it will go up from €40 to €45, marking a 12% hike.

The decision to increase Schengen visa fees was made by the European Commission due to inflation in member states. However, the revised fees will still be relatively low compared to visa costs in other countries. Additionally, the proposal allows external providers of Schengen visas to raise their fees, with the maximum amount going up from €40 to €45.
It’s vital to note that the Schengen visa is mandatory for non-EU citizens from specific countries such as South Africa, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and China. However, citizens from the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia are exempt and can enjoy 90 days of visa-free travel.
The Commission regularly reviews visa fees every three years and may make changes based on various factors such as inflation rates and the average salaries of civil servants in member states. It is important to note that the majority of member states have expressed strong support for the proposed fee adjustments. Additionally, there are provisions for additional fee increases for countries that do not adequately cooperate on readmission.
