Five Canadian provinces, namely British Columbia (BC), Quebec, Alberta, Manitoba, and Prince Edward Island (PEI), conducted provincial immigration draws in the recent week.
All Canadian provinces and territories, except Nunavut and Quebec, have their own Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) to select economic immigration candidates. These programs are designed to aid each province and territory to welcome skilled immigrants who can best address local labor market needs and demographic challenges.
The Quebec government does not operate a PNP as per their agreement with the federal government to maintain authority over their own economic immigration.
BC conducted two provincial immigration draws on April 30, 2024. A total of 47 invitations were issued in a general draw, which considered candidates from five different streams. The Entry Level and Semi-Skilled candidate group required a minimum score of 107 while the remaining four streams required a minimum score of 131 to receive an invitation. BC also issued invitations in four additional draws, all of which considered candidates from the Skilled Worker and International Graduate streams (including EEBC option).
Quebec has recently published the results of two separate draws. The first draw occurred on April 11, 2024, and invited 1,036 people to apply for permanent selection. The invitations were given to candidates with a level 7 or higher oral proficiency in French and a valid job offer outside the territory of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal. Additionally, the invitations were given to candidates with an occupation that appeared in one of two grouped lists of National Occupation Classification (NOC) codes.
On April 25, Quebec invited another 1,415 candidates to apply for permanent selection. The candidates were required to have a level 7 or higher oral proficiency in French, a valid job offer outside the territory of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal, and a minimum score of 598 points.
Alberta’s PNP, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), released the results of a draw conducted on April 17, 2024. During this draw, the AAIP issued 49 Notification of Interest (NOI) letters to candidates who were eligible for its “dedicated healthcare pathway with Alberta job offer” category. These candidates were all required to have a minimum CRS score of 302.
Manitoba posted new results for a recent PNP draw on April 30. This draw welcomed candidates willing to work in Manitoba’s labor market and had a minimum score of 706.
