Lithuania is a well-connected destination within Europe, with its three primary airports in Vilnius, Kaunas, and Palanga servicing regular flights to most international locations. According to Olga Goncarova, Director of the National Tourism Development Agency, the country is set to become even better connected with the addition of new and improved routes. Plans are underway to establish a Hamburg to Vilnius route in Germany, as well as a possible link between Tel Aviv and Vilnius or Kaunas in Israel.

A new air travel route between Vienna and Vilnius was launched by Austrian Airlines last year. Improvements are being made to rail links through the Rail Baltica project which will connect Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia with Warsaw and the rest of Europe. Rail routes connecting the country’s capital with Riga and Warsaw have been opened in recent years. Rail Baltica is expected to be completed by 2029.

Lithuania’s mild climate and diverse flora and fauna make it a great alternative to Mediterranean hotspots. Visitors can explore lush forests and lakes, and take part in outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, kite surfing, and canoeing in one of the country’s five national parks.

Lithuania offers a diverse range of attractions such as Zemaitija National Park, Curonian Spit, and more than 6,000 lakes for kayaking. Visitors can also learn how to fish in Klaipėda or take part in hot air ballooning for a scenic view of the landscape.

Lithuania offers beautiful autumn foliage, winter sports, and festive Christmas markets with traditional dishes like fish and vegetable platters and sweet pastries called kūčiukai.

Lithuania has five UNESCO sites, including the Kernavė Archaeological Site, Curonian Spit, Struve Geodetic Arc, and Trakai Castle. Vilnius’ old town is one of the largest surviving medieval old towns in Northern Europe with impressive architecture and cobbled paths. Trakai Castle is a 15th-century castle located on an island in the middle of Lake Galvė with breathtaking views.
