The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently conducted an Express Entry draw, issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to 730 candidates in a general draw. To qualify, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 541.
This draw is part of the ongoing Express Entry draws, with the most recent on January 23 inviting 1,040 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 543 in a general draw. The preceding draw on January 10, also a general draw, invited 1,510 candidates with a CRS score of 546.
Predicting the trajectory of Express Entry draws in 2024 remains uncertain at this early stage of the year. In 2023, IRCC conducted 42 draws, issuing ITAs to over 110,000 candidates, contributing towards meeting the admissions targets outlined in the Immigration Levels Plan for both 2023 and 2024.
Additionally, noteworthy changes were announced concerning Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWPs) on January 22. Effective September 1, international students enrolled in programs at private colleges affiliated with a public college through a curriculum licensing agreement will no longer be eligible for a PGWP. Furthermore, graduate-level students in programs shorter than eight months will now be eligible for a three-year PGWP, increasing opportunities for work experience in Canada.
Express Entry manages applications for Canada’s key economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). Applicants in these programs receive CRS scores based on factors like work experience, education, age, occupation, and language proficiency.
Express Entry, a multi-step process, involves self-assessment for program eligibility, creating a profile in the Express Entry pool to obtain a CRS score, and awaiting an ITA in a subsequent draw. Once an ITA is received, candidates have 60 days to gather documents and submit their final permanent residence application to IRCC.
