Latest Requirements for Work Visas in South Korea

South Korea’s official announcement of the procedures for applying for new work visas in 2024 has generated considerable anticipation. This development marks the establishment of a comprehensive framework, providing clear guidelines for prospective applicants seeking employment opportunities in the country.

When initiating the application process for a new work visa in South Korea, it is crucial to adhere to the procedures mandated by the Korean authorities.

To complete the visa application successfully, applicants must submit the following requisite documents:

1. Application for the process of issuing visas (Form No. 17).
2. One standard-size passport photo.
3. Proof of income, encompassing a work certificate, wage statement, or details about account transactions, among other relevant documents.
4. Certificate of proof of a criminal record.
5. Certificate of private health insurance subscription.
6. Proof of family relationships, if applicable.

Applicants seeking a South Korea visa are advised to follow a systematic approach. As per the official press release from the Ministry, individuals interested in obtaining the visa can submit their applications through Korean embassies in their respective countries.

Foreign nationals currently in Korea with short-term tourist visas, such as the B-1, B-2, or C-3 categories, have the opportunity to transition to a work visa if they meet all the specified requirements. It is important to note that there are employment restrictions in Korea, and stringent measures are in place for digital nomad visa holders to work within the country. Additionally, obtaining a second employment visa is mandatory for working within Korea.

The newly introduced visa allows foreign nationals to engage in remote work for a company located outside of Korea for one year. Visa holders can extend their stay for an additional year, allowing them to stay in Korea for a maximum of two years, subject to compliance with relevant regulations and requirements. This initiative aims to strike a balance between facilitating foreign talent and safeguarding the integrity of the Korean domestic market.
