The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs has revealed that in 2023, nearly one million passports were issued through this incredible service. That’s one million people who were able to easily and conveniently obtain their passports online, saving time and hassle. In 2023, the Irish Passport Service made online changes that helped first-time applicants, especially those applying for a child’s first passport. The daily number of issued passports ranged from 2,000 to 3,000. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Micheál Martin, commended the Customer Service Hub for handling over 600,000 citizen queries and addressing all calls. Adult renewal applications were processed and issued within two working days.
Martin from the Passport Service stated that 2024 will be a busy year. He suggested using Passport Online for renewals or first-time applications. In 2023, over 36,000 Foreign Birth Registrations were approved with a reduced processing time of 8 months.
Passport Online is now accessible to new applicants in 175 additional countries. This makes it possible for 99.9% of initial and renewal applications worldwide to be submitted online. According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the youngest applicant was just four years old, while the oldest was 103 years old.
Dublin received the highest number of passport applications, followed by Cork, Antrim, Galway, and Kildare. The United States, Australia, Canada, France, and Spain are the top countries where Passport Service received applications. The Passport Service ranks 18th among 150 public-facing organizations in a Customer Experience group survey. Ireland’s passport ranks 19th in the world’s most powerful passport list. The Irish Department of Justice launched an online platform to apply for Irish citizenship in October 2023.
