Finland Imposes Higher Financial Standard for Schengen Visas

Great news for adventure-seekers! From January 1, 2024, Finland will require travelers to carry 66 percent more money to make their stay even more exciting and comfortable. The Finnish authorities have taken this exciting decision to ensure that travelers have a fantastic time exploring the country and all its wonders. So, get ready to pack your bags, head out to Finland, and make memories that will last a lifetime!

Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced an increase in the financial requirement for Schengen visa applications. Applicants will now need to show proof of €50 per day for the duration of their stay.

Additionally, a new requirement has been introduced, wherein applicants must submit a proof of sponsorship form. This change has been made due to the increasing living costs in Finland and worldwide. It’s important to note that this financial requirement will only apply to those visiting for periods shorter than 90 days.

The amount of money you need to show as proof of financial support when applying for a Schengen visa, commonly known as means of subsistence, varies across the EU member states. For instance, you only need €50 in Finland, but in Belgium, you must demonstrate a daily minimum amount of €45, which goes up to €95 per day if you’re staying in a hotel or similar accommodation.

Increasing the minimum means of subsistence is a typical and legal practice among the member states. This requirement applies not only to those applying for a Schengen visa but also to those who visit under a visa-free arrangement. The post-Brexit period has been particularly challenging for many Britons, especially those traveling to Spain, as they have had to meet this requirement.

New Requirement for Completing a Proof of Sponsorship Form Has Been Introduced

In addition to that, If you’re planning to apply for a Schengen visa to travel to Finland, there’s some important news you should know about. Recently, the Finnish authorities have announced a new requirement for visa applicants. In addition to the financial requirements, you’ll also need to provide proof of sponsorship and accommodation.

This means that if someone has invited you to travel to Finland and will cover your expenses, they’ll need to fill out a special form confirming their sponsorship and accommodation details. The form must be filled in by a Finnish citizen or a person who resides in Finland with a residence permit. Once completed, you’ll need to attach it to your visa application along with the other necessary documents.
