New Study Permit Guidelines Unveiled by Canadian Authorities

Great news for international students planning to study in Canada! The country has just announced new rules that will make the process smoother and more efficient. A brand new online portal has been launched for Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) to verify letters of acceptance (LOAs) submitted by international students in support of their student visa applications.

This means faster processing times and less hassle for students. Under the new framework, DLIs will need to validate LOAs through the online portal within just 10 calendar days – ensuring a speedy process. And the best part? If the LOA is not verified within the specified timeframe or confirmed as fake, the student visa application will be cancelled and fees refunded to the applicant. So, international students, get ready to study in Canada hassle-free!

This initiative addresses previous instances of abuse in Canada’s international student systems, including a case involving the near deportation of 700 Indian students who were deceived with false acceptance letters created by a fraudulent immigration consultant.

Canada has launched a new version of the study permit application form (IMM1294) starting from December 1, 2023. The old version of the form will not be accepted for applications submitted after that date. Additionally, IRCC has proposed the “Trusted Institutions Framework” for study permits, offering faster processing to trusted institutions.

The details are still limited, but it’s expected to bring about a host of new changes that will make it even better for students seeking to study abroad. Get ready for an increase in the cost-of-living requirement, reconsideration of the 20-hour work cap for international students, the end of the facilitative measure allowing students to count time spent abroad towards their Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), and exciting new changes to the PGWP program. All of these changes are aimed at aligning international student enrollment and PGWP issuance with labor market and demographic needs, making Canada an even more attractive destination for the nearly one million international students who choose to study there. So, if you’re considering studying abroad, keep your eyes peeled for all the exciting developments coming your way in 2024!
